Thomas is a bad boy and it often appears as though he looks at life as just a video game. He’s tough, street-smart, has a low tolerance to bullshit, and can be known to throw a punch when he’s angry enough. On the other side, Thomas does like to have a good time and has a good sense of humor. He has a hard time with relationships and doesn’t like to open up, finding ways to cover up ‘inner feelings’ and other things that he considers to be signs of weakness. One of his biggest weaknesses is trying to prove himself, consciously and subconsciously, to his father, which makes him work twice as hard to be at the top of his game.

History:
Thomas was born on June 9, 1978 in Los Angeles California to (at the time) Major Joe Preston and his wife Marilyn. His brother Nathan was a few years older, and three years later their sister Allison was born. The family moved around quite a bit to follow Joe’s various station assignments in the Marine corps, including living in Florida, Virginia and Germany, but mostly LA.

From an early age, Thomas showed that he was the rebel, and while Nathan followed their father’s orders to the letter, Thomas often didn’t. But Joe wasn’t around too much to notice, spending the week on base and some of the weekends at home. Nathan filled his place while he was gone, and Thomas never took while to his brother’s authoritative attitude. Allison, being the baby of the family, was looked after by their mother, leaving Thomas to mostly fend for himself.

Despite moving around frequently, Thomas always considered LA to be his home, since it seemed to be the place they always came back to. He found acceptance on the street, and became close friends with Freddy Martinez, who was close to his own age. In fact, he found that the Martinez family welcomed him more than his own, and he would frequently run off to their house for anywhere from a few hours to even a couple of days. Eventually, with Freddy, Thomas started to hang out with the gang that Freddy’s two older brothers were already in.

The gang became more of a family to him, but Thomas had to work extra hard to prove himself as a white boy. But he liked the fast life with drugs, sex and violence, because it was an escape from his angry father at home. By the time that Thomas barely graduated high school, he had decided to join the Army to get away from everything. He was recruited with the promise of becoming a field medic in the Army Rangers.

The Rangers also appealed to him and he fit in well, able to learn easily in the strict environment. But Thomas still was compelled to test his boundaries, which frequently got him in trouble. He was shipped off to the Middle-east, where he saw four years of active service after two in the States. By the end of his tour, he was given a medical discharge to go along with his purple heart for a major leg wound.

Thomas came back, a significantly changed man, to LA, and started to try to make a new life. He stayed for a time with Freddy and fell back into some of their old routines of drugs and partying while trying to find a job at the same time. It was during the job hunt, that Thomas met Sara Ortiz and began dating her. By the time he was able to get a job at a hospital as a Paramedic, from his military training, Sara had become pregnant and they decided to get married.

Their son Ben was born in 2002 a few months after Thomas and Sara were married and for a year and a half, everything glided along smoothly. But with their haste to get married, it was only for the child, and their relationship started to fall apart, accentuated by Thomas’ continued lifestyle. Two years after Ben was born, Thomas and Sara divorced, in which she was given sole custody of Ben and Thomas moved out of the state to again try to start over.

He moved to New York and was employed at St. Vincent's hospital as a Paramedic and ambulance driver. Currently, he is dating Aria Dalton.
